PAN Card in Income Tax filing holds great significance. Applying for a PAN Card is a simple and convenient process that can be achieved through offline as well as online mode. As easy as a PAN application may sound, it brings along various rejection cases of PAN Card application. Due to wrong or incomplete submission of documents and/or information, PAN Card applications can get rejected. Individuals as well as collective entities like trusts, companies, agencies, HUFs, etc. face issues of PAN application rejection.

We have listed below a few reasons why your PAN application may get rejected:

1. Discrepancy in the PAN Application Form: Applicants are required to fill PAN Card Application through either of the two forms - Form 49A and Form 49AA. One can easily download a PAN Card online through Alankit portal. Both of the forms have various fields to be filled that include personal details such as date of birth, name, age, address, gender, etc. Even though there are specific columns designated to fill information in the required fields, many times, applicants might fill these columns with incorrect information.

2. Discrepancy in the supporting documents submitted: Along with the PAN Application form, applicants are required to submit supporting documents to the PAN department like proof of identity, address, etc. If the supporting documents are not clear enough for the concerned authorities to understand, it may result in rejection of the PAN Card application.

The above-listed are the major reasons to lead to PAN Card rejection.

How to Avoid PAN Card Application Rejection?

Listed below are a few things to remember while fulfilling a Form for PAN Card:

  • Avoid using initials while specifying the ‘name’ fields in the PAN Application Form. This is one of the key reasons leading to the application’s rejection. There are a number of societies in India to use initials rather than writing the last name or middle name. Also, if the names mentioned in the supporting documents do not match with the PAN application form, the application will get rejected. Further, initials in the name field are not acceptable under the PAN database. Applicants can check their PAN Card status online in a convenient manner.

  • Landline numbers must include ISD and STD codes. In case of contact numbers, the right country code must be provided. This way, PAN furnishing authorities can contact the applicant in case there is a need.
  • PAN Application Form to be filled in block letters and ensuring all mandatory fields to be furnished to avoid rejection of the PAN application.
